Final Reflection

This course provided a refresher in how to use social media personal and professionally as well as how to have my students use it to expand their learning but also protect themselves moving forward.  The point I will carry with me from this course is keeping my professional and personal media separate.  When I first joined social media, I had no clue how to harness the power, but as I gained more experience I understand the true reach and power of social media.  It is important to keep life separate as well as keep your posts protected.  Professionally, I have grown through the understanding of how to incorporate social media into my lessons in order to give students another way to interact with materials.  It social media always appropriate, no, but I do believe it has it places in education, as long as it is used appropriately. When creating a social media policy for the individual classroom, the teacher needs to be careful to make sure all policies the enact follows school or district policy.  In today's society when individuals are fired or publicly shamed because of their social media presence, teacher need to set the bar higher, and be the example of how to use social media in the classroom.  The policy list created below is a combination of my current district's policy and other policies and ideas located on the Internet.  My district does not have a specific policy referencing social media but has policies that are close in nature. 1.
